Rancho Encantado, nestled on the shores of Bacalar Lagoon, is the perfect eco-resort destination. In addition to strolling the luscious grounds and savoring the gourmet food, seeing the beautiful Bacalar Lagoon alone is worth the visit. The lagoon’s colors are a kaleidoscope of shades and tones of blue, ranging from transparent light turquoise in the shallows to varying hues of aqua marine, Dutch blue, emerald green and ink blue/black in its deepest parts. The ancient Maya – the early inhabitants of this area – aptly called this fresh water lagoon “The Lake of Seven Colors”. On this clear body of water, held sacred by the ancient Maya peoples, one can feel a strong connection to nature in all its variety and soulful depth.
