THE SPA

by John Lamkin (aka Juan Galan)

The hand-lettered sign said "SPA TREATMENTS".

The spa was primitive--outside a tarp overhead and chairs--inside the wooden shack, one massage table and three therapists--one man, one woman and one of unidentifiable sex welcomed us.

"We trained in Cancún," the woman said "massage, reflexology, Reiki and other techniques."
This primitive spa "palace" was in the middle of the courtyard of the Chetumal, Mexico prison (CERESO).

The woman, who seemed to be the spokesperson for the three, spoke about their training--being sent for two months to Cancún, the modalities they used and that spa was a very recent addition to the prison for use by the inmates and their visitors. Being a Reiki master myself, I spent a few minutes holding her hand and exchanging energy. I wished them the best of exito, (luck) and left with the warden to explore the rest of this amazing prison.
